Taking the values of Sanathana Dharma at grassroots-Support for Channel Thamiz Thiru

Taking the values of Sanathana Dharma to the grassroots level has been one of the foremost challenges in recent times due to several evolving factors:

• The creation and propagation of narratives that attempt to tarnish the values of Sanathana Dharma, often amplified through language barriers that prevent accurate understanding.
• The introduction of school curricula that, under the garb of secularism, tend to discredit spiritual learning and gradually distance younger generations from the moral and cultural foundations rooted in Sanathana Dharma.
• Continuous questioning and criticism of religious practices and customs through cinema, digital platforms, and social media, often without adequate contextual understanding.
• The gradual creation of divisions among the various sub-sects within Sanathana Dharma, carefully fostered over time.

Traditionally, the sub-communities within Sanathana Dharma functioned like small bundles of sticks—each representing distinct professions and traditions—bound together within a larger collective framework. Even if an individual stick is shaken, the smaller bundle remains intact, thereby preserving the strength and unity of the larger Sanathana framework. However, sustained efforts to create divisions threaten this long-standing cohesion.

The challenge of carrying Sanathana Dharma’s values to the grassroots is not new. Since the colonial period, several factors—including political interventions, the spread of misleading narratives, and material inducements offered to vulnerable sections of society—have created obstacles. Many well-meaning religious and social leaders who attempted to counter these influences faced strong resistance and, at times, severe personal consequences.

Today, only a limited number of dedicated spiritual and social leaders continue to uphold and propagate these values with perseverance despite significant opposition. They communicate in language and formats that resonate with grassroots communities, making spiritual and cultural teachings accessible and relevant.

Such leaders deserve wholehearted support, encouragement, and motivation. The dissemination of these messages requires substantial resources—both financial and organizational—to conduct conferences, outreach programmes, social media engagement, and public discussions.
